Built by mariners · for fellow mariners

Built by mariners, for fellow mariners.

We are Masters, Chief Engineers and shore-side professionals who have sailed the ships, sat the exams and made the moves you're weighing up now. Hindsight Marine turns that collective sea time into a clear course for whoever is asking “what next?”

Two very different journeys. One team that has charted both.

Getting into the Merchant Navy and building a life after years at sea are not the same problem. We treat them as two distinct routes, each with its own mentors and its own programmes.

The world you're deciding to join, or to leave.

Merchant Navy is not one job. It's tankers and boxships, engine rooms and bridge wings, terminals and drydocks — and a whole shore-side industry behind it.

Shore-side careers

Mariners advising mariners.

Careers at sea branch in too many directions for any one person to advise on all of them. Our mentors are grouped by the decision you're actually facing.

Engine department

Former Chief Engineers

Machinery-side career paths, COC preparation, and what engine-room progression really demands.

Deck department

Former Masters & Chief Officers

Navigation-side progression, watchkeeping competency, and choosing between vessel types and trades.

Shore-side industry

Ship Management & Marine Ops

How hiring actually works ashore — in ship management, insurance, surveying and maritime tech.

Education

MBA & Admissions Mentors

Officers who used sea time to get into strong business schools, and now coach others through it.

Where the stripes actually lead.

The rank you start at is not the rank you stay at. This is the deck ladder — the engine side runs in parallel, from Fifth Engineer up to Chief.

STAGE 01

Deck Cadet

12–18 months at sea

Training on board under the Chief Officer, logging the sea time your first certificate depends on.

Third & Second Officer

Roughly 3–6 years in

Your own navigation watch, responsibility for safety equipment and cargo, and your first real command decisions.

STAGE 03

Chief Officer

Roughly 7–10 years in

Second in command. Cargo operations, deck crew, stability and the ship's day-to-day running.

STAGE 04

Master

10–15 years in

Command of the vessel. Full legal and operational responsibility for ship, cargo and everyone aboard.

Wherever you are on the voyage, there's a next step to plan.
